Verrekijker, 2025

Digital Sculpture, 3D scans, 3D sculpts and found objects

We see a well-worn, lived-in structure—a treehouse, a nest, a mound. Inside, a green cat lounges, a blue toad
perches, a vibrant stingray floats by. A cheerful donut, a hybrid lone hare, a caring family, and countless other
curious creatures call it home. This digital sculpture is a sanctuary for all beings. Like a modern fable, it creates
a space where everyone belongs.

Our love for fiction and fantasy has always been, in part, about escape—into worlds that feel a little brighter, a
little kinder than our own. Yet fantasy often lingers in the past, recreating imagined histories or mythic time
lines. ‘Verrekijker‘(binoculars) looks forward toward a regrown future shaped by kinship and inclusion. Here,
the usual divisions—between animal and human, nature and machine, the beautiful and the strange—dis
solve. In this patchwork treehouse, everyone is welcome.

The work includes 3D scanned handmade clay objects, found footage, and digitally sculptured and colored
objects and digitized reimagined sculptures from the collection of the Museum.

The project was created through a collaboration between artist Benjamin Pompe and students from Blariacum
College in Blerick, and was made possible by Museum van Bommel van Dam.
